PV Sindhu Wins 1st Silver For India In Badminton after giving a tough fight to Spain’s Carolina Marin in the 2016 Rio Olympics Women’s Badminton final. The final points were 21-19, 12-21, 15-21 with a match full of roller coaster moments.
Hyderabad born this 21-year old girl carried the expectations of 1.2 billion Indian to the finale and at the end won hearts all over by showcasing a valiant fight for victory. Opening with a dazzling first set victory, she couldn’t sustain her momentum against the World No 1 who came back to win the next two sets.
PV Sindhu’s journey from Hyderabad to the Olympics wall of fame is a story of tremendous dedication and hard-work. Her indomitable spirit and never give up attitude has made her reach this height today making her an idol for billions of Indians. Born to former volleyball player parents P. V. Ramana and P. Vijaya, Sindhu started her badminton training at a very early age of eight in Secunderabad after drewing inspiration from the success of 2001 All England Open Badminton Champion, Pullela Gopichand. She later joined the Pullela Gopichand’s famous badminton academy. She used to travel daily for 56km from her home just to train at the academy. This shows her willingness to complete her desire of becoming a good badminton player. After winning several domestic & national championship, she kept on improving till she reached into the top-20 Badminton World Federation rankings in 2012. By winning the Silver medal for her country today she have proved that if you have the will to chase your dreams, one day you will surely achieve it. We feel extremely proud of this daughter of India for creating history and making us proud.
